Sir Chris Fox QPM (Chair)
Sir Chris was appointed as Police Authority Chairman for a period of four years from 1 April 2009, he also chairs the Senior Appointments, Leadership & Development Committee. He joined the Nottinghamshire Police in 1972 moving to Warwickshire and was appointed Chief Constable of Northamptonshire from 1996 to 2003. He became the first full time National President of the Association of Chief Police Officers for three years representing the most senior police officers on the national stage, in government and in the media. The formation of the new Serious and Organised Crime Agency and the National Police Improvement Agency were based on recommendations from his office. He led the development of the first ever national emergency service communication system. As Chair of the project board he was central to its specification, procurement and implementation first in the police service and then to all other emergency services. He co-ordinated several national police operations such as the response to the 2005 terrorist attacks in London, the Tsunami response and the security operation at the G8 summit in Scotland.He was knighted by Her Majesty the Queen in 2006 for services to policing in the UK.He retired in 2006 and has run a small company offering strategic advice to companies and individuals working in the field of Criminal Justice as well as mentoring some senior police officers. As well as being a member of the Institute of Directors he is a member of a National Security Commission run by the Institute of Public Policy Research.
Dame Elizabeth Neville (independent)
Dame Elizabeth Neville retired as Chief Constable of Wiltshire Constabulary in September 2004. She was appointed to the Police Authority for a period of three years in April 2005, which was extended in April 2008 for a further four years until 31 March 2012, as an Independent Member and Police Advisor. She is a member of the Senior Appointments, Leadership & Development Committee.
Elizabeth is an Independent Adjudicator of Companies House and was appointed as the High Sheriff of Wiltshire on 31st March 2010.
Mr Robert Wright (Independent)
Robert (Rob) Wright has been appointed as an Independent member for three years from 4 January 2010. He is Chairman of the Audit, Risk & Corporate Governance Committee. He is a management consultant, specialising in providing tailored support to public sector bodies on policy and project management. Before taking early retirement from the then DTI in March 2007, he was Director of Export Control and Non-proliferation for three years, with responsibility inter alia for overseeing the government's policy on nuclear safeguards, and prior to that Director of Energy Strategy. He is an accredited Office of Government Commerce high risk Gateway Review team leader and an Associate of the National School of Government. He is also a member of the Cabinet Office's Security Vetting Appeals Panel.
Mr Stephen Barrett (Independent)
Stephen Barrett has been appointed as an independent member and Chair of the Finance, Planning and Performance Committee from 1st April 2010. After qualifying as a solicitor, Stephen practised law in the corporate and securities field, with Dechert and Norton Rose, before moving to Lloyds Merchant Bank where he became a senior executive director. He then joined KPMG as a partner - and was latterly International Chairman, Corporate Finance. Stephen is a Non Executive Director of the Royal Air Force, and of the National Fraud Authority. He is also a former Non Executive Director of the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Member of the Royal United Services Institute, Member of the Law Society, Fellow of the Compliance Institute and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.
Matt Sykes is a Regional Chief Nuclear Officer within British Energy. He has worked within the Electricity Supply Industry for 27 years and held a number of operational positions. Matt was appointed to the Police Authority as a member in April 2007 and his current term has been further extended until 31 March 2011. Matt is a member of the Audit, Risk & Governance Committee.
Dr Janet Wilson
Dr Janet E Wilson was appointed to the Police Authority in April 2008 and her appointment has been
Janet is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a member of the European Federation of National Engineering Associations, (FEANI), and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE). She is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Engineers. After gaining practical engineering experience of operations, design and commissioning within the British Steel Corporation, Janet moved to join the Nuclear Power Company, (later to become the National Nuclear Corporation), in 1980 where she worked upon the design and commissioning of Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor fuel routes. She also undertook practical and theoretical research to develop a system to detect the accidental dropping of fuel within the reactor core and to automatic shutdown the reactor which she successfully submitted as a PhD thesis.After a brief period of wider nuclear design experience she joined the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) in 1988 as an Assessor in Mechanical Engineering and later as the Site Inspector for Heysham 1 Nuclear Power Station. She then moved to be responsible for Emergency Preparedness within NII before returning to Site Inspection at Faslane, Rosyth and Barrow dockyards. Janet then became Head of Secretariat and assistant to the Chief Inspector of NII. After a brief return to Site Inspection at Devonport Dockyard, she was appointed Head of Engineering Assessment for reactors and later Head of Projects for BNFL and Magnox Electric when her involvement with the establishment of the NDA first began. Finally, in November 2002 she became the Head of the NDA Interface and Liabilities Strategy for NII before joining the NDA in March 2005 to develop the first NDA Strategy. She then moved to be Head of Engineering Strategy and Decommissioning before taking up her current post in September 2007 as Head of Security, Safeguards and Non-proliferation for the NDA. Janet is married with two daughters aged 17 and 21 and lives in a small village in the Western Lake District. Her interests (when she gets the chance) include mountaineering and scuba diving.
Mr Peter Bradley
Peter Bradley was appointed to the Police Authority in April 2008 and his appointment was further extended until 31 March 2011. He is a member of the Finance, Planning & Performance Committee.
Peter has held a number of engineering positions within the chemical manufacturing industry, and has also worked on corporate transactions within finance and strategy consulting. In addition to major corporate work, he has an interest in early-stage business support and business education.
He is currently Head of Engineering, Projects and Estates for Urenco's operations in the UK and brings broad experience to the CNPA as an industry member.
Mr George Beveridge
George Beveridge is the Deputy Managing Director of Sellafield Ltd, he was appointed to the Police Authorty in August 2009 for 3 years. He has spent 23 years in a variety of roles in the UK nuclear industry, including two previous spells at Sellafield. His experience includes plant and project management, R&D, and business management as well as general management of several businesses. George has been involved at Sellafield, Capenhurst, Reactor Sites, Aldermaston and Nirex during his career and has a broad knowledge of the whole UK nuclear sector. He has also played a part in the socio-economic development of the areas in which he has worked, which included being a founding Director of the Cumbria Inward Investment Agency. George has lived in West Cumbria for over 20 years and enjoys walking and mountain biking in his spare time.
